Understanding the term

What sellers mean when they talk about a listing hijacker

"Hijacker" isn't an Amazon category — it's shorthand sellers use for a seller on their listing they believe shouldn't be there. In practice, several quite different situations get the same label, and each calls for a different response.

  1. 1

    Legitimate competition

Another seller may legitimately offer the same authentic product on your listing.

  2. 2

    Unknown seller

A seller you don't currently recognize. That's all it means so far.

  3. 3

    Potential unauthorized seller

A seller that may not be part of your configured authorized network.

  4. 4

    Potential hijacker concern

A combination of seller and listing signals that needs investigation.

  5. 5

    Counterfeit concern

A suspicion the product isn't genuine — this requires appropriate evidence.

These aren't synonyms. The case review works out which one the evidence actually supports.

Careful review

Don't jump to conclusions — build the case on evidence.

Reporting a seller for something the evidence doesn't support rarely helps, and it can make your next report less credible. Starting from the facts gives you a stronger, more accurate case.

A new seller on its own does not prove:

  • Counterfeiting
  • Trademark infringement
  • Listing hijacking
  • Fraud
  • Unauthorized distribution

Observations and evidence, reviewed together, decide what's appropriate.

Initial case assessment

What we look at first.

The specialist starts with the information you share. Not every item applies to every case.

  • Affected ASIN
  • Marketplace
  • Seller / storefront information
  • Seller ID, if available
  • Observed price
  • Buy Box status and history
  • Listing changes
  • Brand ownership and control
  • Brand Registry status
  • Trademark status, where relevant
  • Previous Amazon reports
  • Support-case history
  • Screenshots and other evidence
  • Test-buy evidence, where appropriately obtained

At intake we ask for: affected asin(s), hijacker seller name/id (if known), brand registry status, trademark status, screenshots or other evidence.

We never ask for your Amazon password or Seller Central login.

Process

How AmzEngine hijacker / seller assistance works.

  1. Tell us what happened

A short intake about the listing, the seller and what you observed.

  2. Provide seller & ASIN details

Seller name, storefront or ID, the ASIN and marketplace.

  3. Upload available evidence

Screenshots, price and Buy Box observations, brand documents.

  4. Expert reviews the situation

A specialist assesses the facts before recommending anything.

  5. Receive strategy, checklist & guidance

An evidence checklist and reporting guidance appropriate to your case.

  6. Follow the appropriate process

You submit through Amazon's own process, or an external one where relevant.

  7. Track follow-up in AmzEngine

Share Amazon's reply and continue within your package's scope.

What we review

Review the seller change in context.

A seller appearing is one data point. The price they're offering, what happened to the Buy Box, whether the listing changed and whether you already know the seller all help place it.

Timing can help organize the investigation.

  1. 10:42 AM · New seller observed
  2. 11:17 AM · Buy Box status changed
  3. 12:05 PM · Price changed
  4. 3:20 PM · Screenshot added
  5. 5:10 PM · Amazon report submitted by customer

Timing and correlation do not by themselves prove wrongdoing.

Evidence

Useful cases are built around evidence.

The specialist tells you which items matter for your situation, so you don't spend time collecting things that won't help.

  • Screenshots
  • Seller ID / storefront information
  • Price observations
  • Buy Box history
  • Listing-change history
  • Brand documentation
  • Trademark information
  • Invoices / distribution records, where relevant
  • Test-buy evidence, where appropriate
  • Customer correspondence
  • Amazon support / report IDs

AmzEngine will not create or alter evidence.

We don't produce fake invoices, supplier records, trademark records, test reports, screenshots or purchase evidence to support a complaint. Every item must be genuine.

Brand, trademark and product evidence

When product evidence may be relevant

In some cases, a product you obtain yourself through a normal, legitimate purchase can help show whether an offer matches your product. We don't encourage misleading purchases, contacting or pressuring sellers, or anything unsafe — and a test purchase doesn't by itself prove a product is counterfeit. Purchase costs aren't part of the service fee.

Do I need Amazon Brand Registry?

Brand Registry gives brand owners access to certain Amazon tools and reporting processes. Whether it's required or useful depends on the issue. It doesn't help that a seller will be removed. The intake asks whether you have it — "Not sure" is a fine answer.

What if I have a registered trademark?

Trademark documentation can be relevant to certain brand and IP issues. Owning a trademark doesn't automatically prevent the legitimate resale of genuine products. For legal or IP analysis, qualified legal counsel may be appropriate — AmzEngine isn't a law firm and doesn't give legal advice.

If you're concerned the product may not be authentic

Evidence matters. Relevant material may include a legitimately purchased product, packaging comparisons, documented product differences, brand documentation, supply-chain information and customer reports where relevant. We won't suggest calling a product counterfeit without evidence that supports it.

For wider brand issues across many products, see Brand Protection.
